Generous Carlisle motorists raising funds for radios

Moto has chosen to support BWBF at its service station in Cumbria.

Visually impaired people living in Carlisle will be given specially adapted radios, thanks to the generosity of the area’s motorists.

The Moto service station at Southwaite on the M6 in Cumbria has chosen to support British Wireless for the Blind Fund (BWBF) through its Moto in the Community Trust scheme.

The charity provides specially adapted audio equipment to blind and partially sighted people across the UK.

Thanks to donations raised in a collection box at the site, £900 has been presented to BWBF through Moto’s community partner grant project.

The money will be used to give five visually impaired people in the area one of the charity’s Concerto 2 sets.

It is an adapted radio, designed to be easier to use for partially sighted people as they utilise strong colour contrast, with yellow buttons against a charcoal background.

The buttons also have tactile markings on them and are well spaced to help the user differentiate between them.

BWBF’s Regional Development Manager for the area Steven Poole said: “We are so very grateful to Moto and all its customers for this grant.

“Many of the people we support spend much of their time indoors, unable to read newspapers or watch the television, so our radios are a real lifeline to the outside world for them.

“We wouldn’t be able to continue providing this vital service without such generous support like this.”
