Trusts fund Concertos for residents in Cumbria and Essex

Visually impaired people living in Cumbria and Essex will benefit from two grants that British Wireless has recently received.

More than 15 visually impaired people will benefit from grants recently received by BWBF.

The Sellafield Charity Snowball has donated £2,200 which will be used to provide Concerto 2 multimedia players to 12 blind or partially sighted people in the West Cumbria area.

British Wireless has also recently been given a donation of £1,500 by the Fowler Smith & Jones Trust.

This grant will be used to fund radios for six elderly Essex residents with sight loss.

Our Concerto 2 has larger controls and colour contrasting buttons to allow someone with sight loss to easily navigate the machine.

It’s a DAB/FM radio and has a CD player and tape deck as well as USB and SD memory card slots so users can listen to their talking books and newspapers in whichever format they receive them.

BWBF’s Trusts Officer, Frances Fielding, said: “We would like to say a big thank you to both the Sellafield Charity Snowball and the Fowler Smith & Jones Trust.

“The support we receive from trusts around the country is vital to the work we do and these two recent donations mean we can help even more people in the two specified areas.

“As well as news, information and entertainment, our radios also provide friendship to visually impaired people who may not have much interaction with the outside world.”
