Job purpose

To develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for Individual Giving and Legacies in line with the vision, aims, and objectives of the charity. The role will focus on legacy strategy, legacy income development, strategising individual giving streams, and achieving income targets for all revenue streams to secure sustainable funding for the charity.

Key responsibilities and duties:

Strategy and Planning

  • Develop and implement a strategic framework for Individual Giving and Legacy fundraising to meet both immediate and longer-term financial needs of the charity
  • Create and deliver a comprehensive legacy promotion strategy to maximise future income from bequests
  • Conduct regular analysis of the supporter database to identify legacy prospects, major donor potential, and strategic insights
  • Strategically match prospects with suitable projects and fundable activities to maximise conversion
  • Develop necessary systems and processes to support the growth of both individual giving and legacy income across the charity
  • Plan and budget for all individual giving activities to raise stable, long-term income for BWBF
  • Research, assess and implement innovative approaches to individual giving and legacy fundraising
  • Stay informed of new developments and legislation affecting individual giving and legacy fundraising, providing advice to staff and volunteers

Income Generation and Donor Stewardship

  • Strategically identify and cultivate new and existing prospects for both individual gifts and legacy pledges
  • Build cases for support and appeals for new and existing donors, creating tailored materials that demonstrate impact
  • Develop and implement segmented donor care and stewardship programs for individual donors, major donors and legacy pledgers
  • Lead negotiations to secure income from major donors and legacy pledgers
  • Maintain necessary financial records
  • Prepare compelling materials for individual giving appeals, legacy promotions, and donor feedback
  • Set and achieve targets for growing the active donor base and legacy pledger pipeline
  • Enhance the fundraising database to ensure donor and legacy pledger records are accurately maintained and utilised for strategic planning

Managing Relationships

  • Develop and manage relationships with donors, legacy pledgers, and influential stakeholders to ensure successful solicitation of gifts, repeat gifts, and legacy commitments
  • Work closely with the Communications, Income and Marketing Manager and wider team to map and leverage networks for introductions and asks
  • Coordinate cross-organisational approaches to individual giving and legacy fundraising, ensuring appropriate stewardship
  • Implement a thorough data management system to track communications with prospects, donors and legacy pledgers
  • Build cross-organisational relationships to strengthen understanding of the Individual Giving and Legacies function
  • Recruit, train and manage volunteers involved with individual giving and legacy fundraising

Reporting and Budgets

  • Work with the Communications, Income and Marketing Manager to set annual income and expenditure targets for individual giving and legacy income
  • Prepare phased budgets and reforecasts aligned to activity plans to ensure accurate tracking of restricted and unrestricted income

Health and Safety

  • Act in accordance with responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Serve as a proactive Fire Marshall and First Aider

Data Protection

  • Comply with all aspects of Data Protection and confidentiality law in line with policies and procedures

Other

  • Monitor the external environment to identify opportunities and stay current with trends that can enhance individual giving and legacy fundraising
  • Ensure fundraising activities adhere to BWBF and sector data protection best practices
  • Develop and maintain data capture requirements for the contacts database
  • Represent BWBF at conferences, events and exhibitions as required
  • Undertake other duties as required from time to time
