At the British Wireless for the Blind Fund (BWBF), we believe every child should be able to enjoy stories, learning and discovery, regardless of sight loss.
To celebrate the National Year of Reading, we’re working with VICTA to unlock the power of reading for children and young people with sight loss.
As part of this partnership, we’re going to be expanding the range of accessible technology available through VICTA, the national charity that empowers children and young people living with sight loss. Alongside Voxblock Players, we will now also provide Kindle Paperwhite e-readers - giving young people more choice in how they access books.
Voxblock offers a simple, screen-free way to listen to audiobooks, while Kindle’s built-in accessibility features allow readers to adjust text size, lighting and settings to suit their individual needs. Together, these technologies help children and young people explore stories, support learning and build confidence with reading.
"Reading really is a window to countless magical worlds, and we’re determined no young person should miss out on the power of a great story. We are excited about the growth of this partnership as it means we can help even more children with sight loss enjoy books, build confidence and experience the freedom that accessible reading can bring."
Sophie Jones, Chief Executive at British Wireless for the Blind Fund
Helping children with sight loss access the joy of reading
Since the partnership began in December 2024, we have provided children through VICTA 143 devices, including Voxblock Players, audiobook players, Alexa smart speakers, Morphée sleep aids, and other devices.
A partnership that reaches families nationwide
VICTA supports children and young people with sight loss across the UK through grants, activities and opportunities that build confidence and independence.
Through this partnership, we provide accessible technology that VICTA distributes to families who will benefit most.
These devices help children access books, explore information and develop independence. For many families, they provide a simple but powerful way to remove barriers and open up new possibilities for learning and joy.
Tiffany Woods, Head of Activities and Strategic Programmes at VICTA, shared:
"We know that reading for pleasure opens new worlds for children which is why we are delighted to be once again partnering with the BWBF to distribute audio devices to vision impaired children and young people. It provides opportunities to use their imaginations, explore new ideas, visit new places and meet new characters."
