Quentin Howard

Trustee

Quentin joined our Board of Trustees in 2019, bringing experience from his long career in radio broadcasting and engineering.

Quentin has been a Trustee for BWBF since 2019, bringing extensive experience from a long career in radio broadcasting and engineering.

Over many years Quentin has worked in every field of commercial broadcasting in senior executive positions, from engineering to programming and presenting.  He is acknowledged in the industry as a pioneer of new broadcast technologies, including digital systems and transmitter networks.  He has designed and launched over 30 stations including Classic FM in the UK as well as stations in Iceland, Poland and Bulgaria.

Alongside fellow BWBF Trustees Lindsey Mack and Gerry Thorn, Quentin has been instrumental in the success of DAB digital radio. As President of the World DAB Forum, Quentin oversaw DAB’s successful adoption across Europe and beyond.  He currently manages the technology for Boom Radio in the UK.

Alongside his radio career, Quentin has worked in TV broadcasting and ran the British armed forces broadcasting network.  He is a Trustee of the National Library of Wales, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and a Fellow of The Radio Academy. He has been honoured with Gold Sony Radio Awards for his programmes and contributions to radio technology.

During his time as a BWBF Trustee, Quentin has witnessed the decline in traditional radio receivers and rapid adoption of smart speakers, mobile technologies and growing reliance on the internet.  His experience helps to guide BWBF as it adapts to changes in technology.

Outside of work, he enjoys long walks with his dog, Shadow, and his passion project of restoring a 70-year-old Velocette motorbike.
