Alexa is a digital assistant that can be voice controlled by asking simple questions.

For people living with sight loss an Alexa device can be a fantastic way of finding out information as you don't need to use buttons or on-screen controls to use it.

You can use an Echo Dot to play music, set alarms and timers, find out the weather, traffic conditions, sports scores for your favourite teams, manage to-do lists, control smart home devices and much more.

All you need to do is ask the question "Alexa what is the weather today?" or "Alexa what time is it?" and she will reply with the information you require.

Can I get a free Alexa device?

To receive an Alexa device, someone living with sight loss needs a referral from a professional.

To be eligible for one of our Alexa devices, the recipient needs to:
  • Have access to a smart phone or tablet, and the internet at home
  • Be resident in the UK
  • Be living with sight loss
  • Receive Personal Independent (PIP) / Attendance Allowance (AA) or Adult Disability Payment (ADP) in Scotland or receives a means-tested benefit (or parent/guardian if under 18).
