We've been supporting people with sight loss for nearly 100 years. Now we're transforming from traditional audio device provision to comprehensive technology empowerment - and we're looking for exceptional trustees to help shape this evolution.

This is your opportunity to join at a pivotal moment. In 2026, we're launching a major rebrand backed by comprehensive research with people living with sight loss. You won't be inheriting a finished strategy - you'll be helping to implement and refine it.

What we're looking for

We're seeking 2-3 new trustees who can bring fresh perspectives and specialist expertise to complement our existing board. We're particularly interested in candidates with:

  • Lived experience of sight loss - authentic perspective is invaluable
  • Fundraising and income generation expertise - major donors, grants, corporate partnerships
  • Technology sector experience - digital services, accessibility, product development
  • Senior leadership experience - CEO or Director-level in relevant sectors

Our commitment to equality, diversity & inclusion

BWBF is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion in our board composition and welcomes applications from all backgrounds.  We particularly encourage applications from people living with sight loss.

Why join now

  • Transformation opportunity: Shape how a heritage charity evolves for its next century
  • Evidence-based strategy: Research-driven approach, not guesswork
  • Real impact: Technology empowerment genuinely changes lives
  • Perfect timing: Join as rebrand launches and new chapter begins

The role

As a BWBF trustee, you'll:

  • Provide strategic direction and governance oversight
  • Attend quarterly board meetings (both online and in person) plus committee work
  • Contribute specialist expertise to support organisational growth
  • Help shape service delivery for people with sight loss

This is an unremunerated voluntary role. Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
