Madison's story: our spring appeal

For a young person living with sight loss, technology can be a window to a world of entertainment and learning. But it comes at a price. Meeting the additional needs of a disabled child can be prohibitively expensive.

We don’t think that’s fair, and we need your help to change it. This spring, we're asking you to help us raise the funds we urgently need to help parents keep their children connected.

You can listen to an audio version of our spring appeal using the link at the bottom of this page.

Our iPad pilot project

Last year we set up a pilot project, giving iPads to children living with sight loss.

The impact was greater than we could have imagined – it unlocked independence, joy, and new skills.

Just read Madison's incredible story below to see the life-changing difference our service makes.

“It can feel like a battle to have your child included” - Madison's story

Madison is a bright 17-year-old who is full of character. Born blind, she has a range of complex needs and autism. Madison’s Mum, Lynzi, told us how the iPad we provided has helped Madison find independence and freedom, while taking the pressure off a busy family.

More than an iPad

After exploring several options without success Lynzi admits she lost hope. So, when Steven from BWBF said the charity would be able to help, Lynzi was blown away.

The iPad hasn’t just helped Madison’s wellbeing - it has been a huge support to the whole family as they juggle multiple responsibilities and hospital appointments. And, for Madison, it's unlocked a world of learning. From practicing foreign languages to listening to documentaries about the interests she passionately follows.

Having organisations like BWBF to just take the pressure off - it makes a difference in more ways than anyone will ever know. I really hope people keep supporting BWBF so other people like Madison don’t miss out.
