Brewery trust funds adapted radios

Three visually impaired people living in the West Country will be given specially adapted radios thanks to a local trust.

St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust has donated £540 to British Wireless for the Blind Fund (BWBF).

The charity provides audio equipment to blind and partially sighted people, who can often become lonely and isolated as they are unable to read a newspaper or watch TV.

The radios, which are designed to be easier to use for people with sight loss, help give them a link to the outside world.

St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust supports charities, good causes and individuals in need across the brewery’s primary trading area of Cornwall, Devon and Somerset and has supported BWBF in the past.

The trust is funded by contributions from the brewery plus donations and fundraising events.

The grant will be used to provide three of the charity’s Concerto 2 sets to visually impaired people living in the area.

BWBF Regional Manager for the area, David Loveridge, said: “We are so grateful to the charitable trust for its ongoing support for our work in the West Country.

“Our radios make such a difference to people living with sight loss and to be able to provide another three is fantastic.

“Our recipients always tell us how much their sets mean to them and that they wouldn’t be without them.”
