Three grants will help more visually impaired people
Three grants from different organisations will help us get more radios to blind and partially sighted people in central England.
British Wireless for the Blind Fund has recently been given some funding to provide radios in the central part of the country.
Sir George Martin Trust has donated £1,000 which will pay for new equipment for people in the North Yorkshire area.
Risley Medical Research Fund has given us £330 for the visually impaired in Greater Manchester.
We have also received £250 from the Richard Kilcuppe’s Charity to support people in need in Birmingham.
All the grants will be used to provide our Concerto 2 sets to people who live in the listed areas.
Many people with sight loss live alone and are often unable to read newspapers or watch the television, so a radio becomes their lifeline to the outside world.
Our Concerto 2s are specially designed to be easier to use for people with sight loss, with tactile markings on the large, well-spaced buttons and utilising strong colour contrast, with yellow controls on a charcoal background to help those with residual vision.
BWBF Regional Development Manager, Sophie Wheldon, said: “We are so grateful for these three generous donations.
“The funding will make a real difference in helping our on-going work in these three areas.”
