Grant to support visually impaired in Manchester
British Wireless has received a donation to support the blind and partially sighted community in Greater Manchester.
The £3,000 grant has come from the Zochonis Charitable Trust.
It will be used to provide 16 of our most popular radio, the Concerto 2, to people with sight loss living in the Greater Manchester area.
This is seventh grant we have received from the trust.
Currently, we are supporting more than 550 visually impaired people in the area but from research we have done, know there at least another 600 in the county who could benefit from our service but are not currently accessing it.
BWBF’s Trusts Officer Frances Fielding said: “We are very grateful to the Zochonis Charitable Trust for this donation.
“They have supported us a number of times in the past and as a charity which receives no government funding, we rely on grants like this to continue providing vital support to people with sight loss.
“When you can no longer see to watch television, go out unaided or read a book, a radio brings the world to your living room and becomes a constant companion.
“We hope this money will help us reach out to some of the hundreds of people we know we could be supporting in the area.”
