BWBF working with Calibre Audio

British Wireless for the Blind Fund are delighted to continue working with and supporting Calibre Audio. We can supply the audio equipment that our beneficiaries need, we provide the apparatus on a free loan to those who are unable to afford specially adapted audio equipment. The recipient must meet the following criteria: resident in the UK, registered or registerable blind or partially sighted, over the age of eight, In receipt of a means-tested benefit (or parent/guardian in receipt if under 18)

We offer a range of devices – digital radios, CD players, internet radio, memory stick player and even a speaking tablet. Easy to use gadgets are vital to someone who cannot see – they provide news, information and entertainment but also, more importantly, companionship and a friendly voice.

When our beneficiaries want an audio book, they can get a great selection of titles from Calibre Audio. Calibre Audio has an amazing collection of over 12,000 audiobooks. Every day they send out 1,700 books to their members. In 2019 they sent over 460,000 audiobooks to over 14,000 members across the UK and internationally. They can lend to countries that have ratified the Marrakesh Treaty (the 2013 international copyright exceptions for visually impaired and print disabled people). Calibre, believe in social inclusion and the wider benefits that reading brings, combating social isolation, increasing confidence and independence.

Both organisations will strive to improve the daily lives of visually impaired people.
