Canoeists raise funds with annual paddle

Tonbridge Canoe Club's annual charity paddle

A group of canoeists enjoyed the summer weather at annual charity event.

Members of a canoe club have raised almost £100 for BWBF by taking part in a 17km paddle.

Eight people from Tonbridge Canoe Club joined in with the event on Saturday.

It was organised by club member Frances Fielding, who is BWBF’s Trusts Officer, and her husband Ben.

The participants made their way along the River Medway from Tonbridge to Wateringbury.

The 17.3km route took them past popular Kent sights including Tonbridge Castle and they also negotiated several locks.

It took around four and a half hours, which included a picnic lunch stop.

Club members then enjoyed a supper courtesy of Frances and Ben at their home in Wateringbury.

The fundraiser is held every year and this time it raised £95 for British Wireless.

Member Fiona Abraham said: “We had a really brilliant day canoeing from Tonbridge to Wateringbury – beautiful sunshine, great company and a delicious meal at the end.

“At the same time we raised money for a fantastic cause.

“BWBF provides equipment to enable people with visual impairments to keep up to date with what is happening and a vital link to the world – which most of us take for granted.”
