Grants will support visually impaired people in Cumbria

Donations from two trusts will provide radios for more than 20 blind and partially sighted people with equipment.

Visually impaired people in Cumbria will benefit thanks to two grants British Wireless has received.

BWBF has been given £2,594 from the Sir John Fisher Foundation, which supports charitable causes across the UK but with special regard to Barrow-in-Furness.

The money will be used to provide 14 of our Concerto 2 radios to people living with sight loss in the area.

We have also received £2,200 from The Sellafield Charity Trust Fund.

This is to provide 12 Concerto 2 radios to West Cumbrians living with sight loss.

The multimedia player has larger controls and colour contrasting buttons to allow someone with sight loss to easily navigate the machine.

It’s a DAB/FM radio and has a CD player and tape deck as well as USB and SD memory card slots so users can listen to their talking books and newspapers in whichever format they receive them.

BWBF Regional Development Manager for the North, Steven Poole, said: “We rely on donations like this from trusts as we receive no government funding.

“This money will make a real difference to visually impaired people in Barrow-in-Furness and West Cumbria.”
