Guernsey's visually impaired will now be able to access our service
BWBF has issued its first set to someone with sight loss in Guernsey – where people are now able to benefit from our service.
People living with sight loss in Guernsey can now benefit from BWBF’s service if they meet our criteria.
Two members of the charity’s team visited the island to reach out to the visually impaired community there.
They spent time at Guernsey Blind Association, speaking to blind and partially sighted people about the work of the charity and demonstrating the different adapted equipment we have on offer.
Sets have also been left at the organisation’s resource centre so anyone who drops in will be able to see how they work and find out more about us.
The visit was also a chance to confirm that the government’s supplementary benefit does match BWBF’s criteria and so anyone who lives there and is in receipt of it, who is also over the age of eight and registered blind or partially sighted, will qualify for a set.
Following the trip, a radio has already been issued to a Guernsey resident.
BWBF’s Agent Liaison Manager Dave Beard said: “The purpose of the visit was to re-establish contact with Guernsey as we hadn’t been there for some time.
“We wanted to identify whether we could reach out to those visually impaired people who qualify for our sets there.
“We didn’t have any recipients in Guernsey before we went, so this is a new path for us and them, and we’ve already provided a radio to someone who came along to see us.
“It was a real success – we spoke to lots of people while we were there and are now looking forward to being able to provide our service to those who need us in Guernsey.”
